The dust has now settled after the 3rd annual 10 Under the Ben, riders started arriving in Fort William as early as Wednesday evening after the word had got out that No Fuss had changed the course dramatically, they had added some new sections that have been created for the world championships in September and had dropped the Monster, “Nessie”.
No Fuss representative Martin MacDonald said “the course has been widely recognized as the best enduro course around for the last two years, we have been watching Mark Hedderwick building the new trails for the Champs in September, the quality of the single-track is going to blow people away”. The feedback from the riders at the event has been amazing the course was “superb and exquisite” even the pay back for the inclusion of an extra climb made it more than worth it.
UkFMX in Action
Friday night registration for the race got of to slow start in comparison to previous years, there were just over seven hundred riders registered and the crowds were entertained with some incredible stunts and demonstration of High Octane ability by the UKFMX who made their first visit to Fort William and who are guaranteed to be a huge crowd puller when they return in September. Duncan Shaw and Ben Travis showed the crowds what is involved in riding trials bikes with some incredible balancing and bouncing skills. Events Sponsors Blacks “the outdoor experts” were on hand throughout the event with a team from their Stores and from the Marketing department partaking in some healthy inter department rivalry.
Saturday morning and the sun was splitting the skies, this was a first for 10 Under the Ben where the concern for the day would be heat exhaustion rather than the dreaded midgie, 346 riders massed on the start line at Nevis Range car park with Ben Nevis sitting directly in the background, everyone new 10 Under the Ben 2007 was going to be a beauty.
Going into the first corner
In the solo category there were a lot of close battles with Ben Thompson from Fort William coming out on top with an incredible 11 laps with Mike Bossard of Oban 10 mins down in second. Andrew Wrigley who won in 2005 was in 5th spot after having not been on his bike for a while and feeling the effects of the heat. First lady of the day was Nix Forster again from Fort William with an awesome 7 laps in 10 hr 22 mins. There were many great performances.

Throughout the day event organizers had laid on more spectacles including the fire eating thonged marvel Joseph Peace from “themachestercompanyofextermelargeness” as well as local band the Skales and in the evening after the prize giving the Raggaels. Frazer Coupland from NO Fuss explained that 2007 “ it is amazing the difference it has made having a sponsor like Blacks and linked with support from Highland 2007 we have been able to have a great line up, coupled with the work on the course and to have had great weather it almost beggars belief”.
